Hotline set up to help farmers affected by pipeline protests

The 24-year-old actress was arrested when she was protesting against the proposed plans for the Dakota Access Pipeline, which aims to transport crude oil from the North Dakota Bakken region through South Dakota and Iowa into IL, crossing the Missouri River.

The nine protesters had unsuccessfully attempted to shut down oil pipelines in various US states, the Associated Press reported.

The Standing Rock Sioux want construction of the $3.8 billion pipeline halted, saying that it could taint the water supply and encroach on tribal burial sites.

A new hotline is available for farmers and ranchers affected by the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.

The protests have drawn thousands of people to the area where Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners is trying to wrap up construction on the $3.8 billion, 1,200-mile pipeline from North Dakota to IL.

However, following Sunday's ruling, the Corps said it was holding off on that approval as it considered possible reforms over how tribes are consulted for these pipeline projects, AP reported.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says in its response to a lawsuit over the Dakota Access pipeline that it followed proper procedure in evaluating permits for water crossings and did not violate any federal laws.
