Officially ruled out for Week 7

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been officially ruled out of Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday.

Ben Roethlisberger had arthroscopic knee surgery on his left knee Monday morning, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are uncertain when their star quarterback will return.

Like any other team, the Steelers are looking to improve their record by beating the Patriots on Sunday. It's a downgrade for all the Pittsburgh receivers. Brown is still one of the most expensive WRs across the industry, and it's just not a gamble worth taking with Jones under center.

Le'Veon Bell hopes that means Jones is ready to fire the ball. In that game, he threw 168 passing yards with two touchdown passes. "Last year I performed pretty well in most of the situations so I feel like I have the confidence of the guys".

"We've just got to be better period", Foster said.

Pittsburgh (4-2) will have a bye week after Sunday's game (4:25 p.m., ET) versus New England (5-1), which would essentially give Roethlisberger 16 days between the injury and his next likely practice on November 3. Roethlisberger has played through injuries in the past, and he's never missed more than four games in a season. QB Landry Jones will start for as long as Roethlisberger is out and obviously represents a huge downgrade. "I'll draw from that if things come to it".

"Though we do not know a specific timetable for when he will be able to return to the field, we are confident this injury is not long-term", Tomlin said. "We'll see how it all plays out during the week".
