According to multiple reports, former Chicago Cubs pitcher Travis Wood has agreed to a two-year deal with the Kansas City Royals.

The Chicago Cubs retained most of the pieces from their 2016 championship club for the coming year, but yet another player has left in search of greener pastures as Travis Wood will suit up for another team next season.

The thought was that Kansas City would open the final spot in the rotation to competition among a handful of promising young pitchers.

The Royals have mined the Cubs this offseason as they aim to build on their 81-81 finish a year ago and return to the World Series, which they reached the previous two years. In his 133 career starts, the left-hander is 35-50 with a 4.19 ERA. Since transitioning to the bullpen in 2015, he's 7-2 with a 2.95 ERA (39 ER in 119.0 IP) in 122 appearances.

In last year's National League Division Series against the San Francisco Giants, Wood hit a home run, and he has nine career dingers. But he will be given an opportunity to earn a job in the Royals' starting rotation this spring.
