Infiniti reveals QX80 Monograph SUV concept at New York Motor Show

"The QX80 Monograph represents a detailed study into our expertise of exterior design", says Roland Krueger, President of INFINITI Motor Company Ltd.

Designed on an extra-large drawing board in Infiniti's Atsugi studio in Japan, it previews to an impending restyle for the giant QX80 SUV production model now on sale in the United States. No technical information regarding a platform or powertrains has been revealed. We shouldn't necessarily expect to see the Monograph in showrooms anytime soon though, as Infiniti describes this product of its design studio in Atsugi, Japan, as "the ultimate expression of futuristic luxury SUV design", and a model that "illustrates how the design of Infiniti's QX80 could evolve". Typical concept touches such as flush-mounted door handles and what appear to be side-mounted cameras in place of mirrors are unlikely to see the light of day. 24-inch wheels have typical auto show scale, but Infiniti makes them look more like 26-inches by having the outer edges of the wheel overlap the tires; the result is an SUV that looks as though it's running on skinny, low-profile rubber, without the compromise in ride quality.

The D-pillar is reshaped to enhance the horizontality of the SUV's upper body and wheels are 2-tone, partially chromium black and partially brushed copper.

The QX80 Monograph could become the basis of Infiniti's next-generation luxury SUV.

Unmistakable INFINITI signature design elements are taken from the company's latest concept and production vehicles. Monograph studies explore ways INFINITI can develop specific elements of its cars. The brand has been widely acclaimed for its daring design and innovative driver-assistance technologies.
