Apple to replace iPad 4th gen with iPad Air 2

Apple now upgrading iPad 4th gen replacements to newer iPad Air 2 as stock dwindles

The Apple iPad 4 has been first launched in 2012, but it has not been manufactured for quite some time. But on the other hand, some sources from inside the stores have mentioned that iPad 4 service units arrive in "fits and spurts" after depletion. And going from the iPad 4 to the iPad Air 2 should be considered an upgrade.

If you happen to have an old iPad model lying around that is still under AppleCare warranty, it could be a great way to upgrade your device. So it is possible that if your new iPad is damaged, you can receive the iPad Air 2 of 2014 as a substitute for the duration of its fix.

As Apple fans continue to wait patiently for iPad Pro 2, more and more rumors hinting at iPad Pro 2 features are making rounds on the internet. An internal memo obtained by 9To5Mac reads, "Starting March 30th, iPad 4th generation whole unit repairs may be substituted to iPad Air 2". The iPad Air 2 introduced a new gold color option, and has 32GB and 128GB storage options while 16GB and 64GB models were discontinued.

MacBook Air and iPad 4 are notably being sold with chunkier discounts in nearly all retail stores.

The memo further asks staff to provide customers information about the color and capacity of their replacement iPad Air 2.

To that end, users might be in for a sweet storage capacity upgrade, in addition to the iPad Air 2's more powerful internals, of course. Apple has given constant support to the tablet for the last five years but now since the production has been stopped the company is running out of units to offer as a replacement. With the latest launch, the company aims to rebrand the iPad Air line, which will now be simply called the iPad.

The new iPad comes equipped with an A9 chip with 64-bit architecture, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera, Touch ID, and iOS 10 out of the box. If your luck is sky high and were hoping for brand new tablet after your iPad 4 broke down, then you might want to walk towards your nearest Apple Store or an authorized Apple fix outlet.
