Officer shot in Kirkersville Ohio

Authorities are responding to the report of an active shooter situation Friday morning in Kirkersville

When deputies entered the building, they found two employees and the suspected shooter dead inside.

Bill Sims said his 23-year-old daughter Sarah Sims is a worker at the nursing home.

The gunman, who was not immediately identified, shot two other people before turning the gun on himself, WBNS-TV reported. NBC4i says Disario had six children and a seventh is on the way. The shooting reportedly began at or around the assisted living facility.

The local elementary school is on lockdown while police investigate.

Pine Kirk Care Center is a 24-bed facility in a converted residence, the Dispatch reports.

A total of four people were killed - one being the suspected shooting suspect - in a shooting Friday morning at a nursing home in Kirkersville, Ohio, east of Columbus. It is unclear how the shooter gained access to the building, which was usually secured, Thorp said. Some residents barricaded themselves during the shooting, but none of them were injured, he said. Officials said during a news conference the officer had been police chief for three weeks.

Dozens of law enforcement officers were dispatched to Pine Kirk Care Center in Kirkersville after panicked 911 calls.

According to Licking County Sheirff Randy Thorpe, the chief of Kirkersville Police, Steven Eric Disario, was shot and killed in the line of duty. A heavy police presence is still located at the school.

Parents can pick up students at Watkins Middle School.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich tweeted that he was "shocked & pained by the horrific shooting in Kirkersville, ask for prayers for those injured. Thinking of the officer, officer's family & all involved", said Senator Sherrod Brown (D) on Twitter.
