In a statement, they said: "It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but fearless battle with cancer".

"We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF, which he considered to be his greatest achievement", the statement said.

"I told my granddad I'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph", he explained in a post on Facebook this week. "But I didn't say anything in there because those cameramen - any one of them - could be working for Blofeld"'.
