Neill Blomkamp's Oats Studios Teases New Series of Sci-fi Projects

Watch The First Trailer For District 9 Director's New Short Film Coming To Steam

Oats Studios will specialize in making "experimental short films", Blomkamp says, which will be available to watch online via Steam. Promoted as a "series of experiemental short films", Oats Studios Volume 1 is hopefully just the first of many planned shorts from Blomkamp's studio.

Director, producer, and screenwriter Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) has a new venture, Oats Studios, that's aiming to release short experimental films on platforms like YouTube and Steam.

With this project, it seems like Blomkamp is trying to utilize Steam as a go-to place for experimental art and as an outlet for his own wacky and freaky alien invasion ideas without the limits of studio expectations. Sigourney Weaver is in the movie, alongside Dakota Fanning.

The only word on a release is that these are "coming soon". "Adapt or die. It was a simple as that". And if there's enough demand, you might even see these short films on the big screen as full-fledged Hollywood productions in the future.

The Oats Studios shorts will be sold through the gaming streaming site Steam, though the director tweeted that there is scope for Volume 1 to be uploaded free-of-charge to YouTube. It's first trailer also shows off a lizard-like creature, as well as a voice-over stating "The new world altered everyone".

Both trailers appear to capitalize on Blomkamp's extensive work as an animator, and look to once again cover familiar sci-fi ground. Most importantly, check out this very cool teaser trailer and let us know what you think!
