Manhunt Commences After Two Prisoners Escaped From Prison

A manhunt has been underway for Ricky Dubose and Donnie Russell Rowe, who are accused of killing two guards and stealing a pickup truck.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said he doesn't know how the inmates were able to overpower the officers and kill them. "These are risky, seriously unsafe, vicious hoodlums".

David LeValley, FBI special agent in charge of the Atlanta office, said the manhunt had been expanded.

Rowe and Dubose, armed with the officers' weapons, then allegedly carjacked a Honda Civic from a resident who was driving by, and fled west toward Eatonton, the sheriff's office said.

Shots were fired, Sills said.

Investigators have already examined more than 100 leads ranging from Texas to Virginia, Sills said. "We are looking for them anywhere they might be on planet Earth".

In Moore County, the men are said to have stolen another vehicle before police say they forced their way into an elderly couple's home at gunpoint on Kingree Road. He also has "ghost" tattooed on his right forefinger and "face" on his right pinky finger, signs of membership in the Ghost Face Gangsters. When officers approached them, they surrendered and were taken into custody.

Sills said the two inmates got a head start by taking and tossing the Honda driver's cellphone and locking the other 31 prisoners inside the bus.

Baldwin State Prison transfer sergeants Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue were slain.

According to CNN, Sills said the truck was ditched in Moore County in Tennessee and the two apparently stole a auto, which they drove to a house in Bedford County.

Since Tuesday, law enforcement officials said they'd tracked Dubose and Rowe to a rural home, which they broke into while the owners were away. "If somebody is helping them and we find out who they are, they will be prosecuted as participants in this crime, there's no doubt about that". After disarming the officers, one of the inmates shot and killed them, said Stills, who said about 30 inmates saw what happened.

"Both officers were known for their unwavering commitment to their job and their love of family", the Georgia Department of Corrections said in a statement.

Rowe, 43, has been serving life without parole since 2002, and Dubose, 24, began a 20-year sentence in 2015.
