Controversial Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke has reportedly'rescinded his acceptance of a Department of Homeland Security position because he believes he can promote the president's agenda in a'more aggressive role

Clarke had announced last month that he had accepted an offer within the agency, but the agency never publicly announced the position, according to WisPolitics.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke has withdrawn his name from consideration for a Homeland Security posting, according to a report Saturday.

Clarke's advisor, Craig J. Peterson, said in a statement, "Sheriff Clarke is 100% committed to the success of President Trump, and believes his skills could be better utilized to promote the President's agenda in a more aggressive role".

The Milwaukee County Sheriff reportedly rescinded his acceptance of the position, which he was slated to begin in June.

DHS had previously refused to confirm the offer, telling CNN a month ago that "senior positions" like the one that Clarke said he was filling "are announced by the Department when made official by the Secretary".
