Alex Jones interview draws 3.5 million viewers

Megyn Kelly suggests her interview with Alex Jones

Kelly was to be the host of a gala to benefit the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, but was uninvited after news of the segment began to spread.

SUNDAY NIGHT WITH MEGYN KELLY (0.5/3 in 18-49, 0.7 in 25-54, 3.5 million viewers overall from 7-8 p.m. ET) delivered bigger audiences than CBS' "60 Minutes" encore in adults 18-49 (666,000 viewers vs. 618,000, +8%) and adults 25-54 (888,000 vs. 864,000, +3%).

A week before the episode aired, group founded by the parents of Sandy Hook Elementary School victims dropped Kelly as an event host due to the then-unaired interview. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. And that had been a steep slide from the 6.1 million who tuned in for her NBC premiere, when she had interviewed Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.

Kelly has stood by her decision to allow Jones to share his story. Meanwhile, Jones demanded the segment be killed, insisting NBC News' promo for the interview had been edited to distort his views and threatening to release his secret recording of the full interview - which has yet to surface.

"Airing Ms. Kelly's interview implicitly endorses the notion that Mr. Jones" lies are actually "claims' that are worthy of serious debate, and in doing so it exponentially enhances the suffering and distress of our clients", lawyers Josh Koskoff and Katie Mesner-Hage wrote the network, via A.P.

To her credit, Kelly was aggressive in her questioning of Jones' public comments during the segment itself, which drew from hours of sit-down conversations with Jones. If Kelly lets him off the hook, he'll ramble on about how smart he is.

Kelly has struggled with ratings since she launched the show on June 4, averaging 4.9 million viewers in her first two episodes.

"I will sit there on the air and look at every position and play devil's advocate", he said.

Kelly, who gained prominence as an anchor at Fox News, joined NBC this year. Her star power had grown after she challenged Trump during a 2015 Republican debate on his history of sexist remarks and the candidate responded with a series of angry tweets and other comments, sometimes crude and personal, and boycotted a later debate because she was one of the moderators.

Kelly's old employer needled her over the weekend, sending a tweet headlined "Megyn Kelly and Alex Jones: NBC News under fire for "botched" rollout".
