Pats sign wide receiver Kenny Britt, recently cut by Browns

Kenny Britt will be the fourth former Rutgers player on the New England Patriots once his reported contract is finalized

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots will meet at Heinz Field in just a few days, and after a night in which the Patriots' wide receivers seemingly hardly contributed at all, they have made a change, signing veteran free agent Kenny Britt, who was recently released by the Cleveland Browns. The deal is for two years, according to ESPN.

Britt was released by the NFL's basement team only to land in one of the league's penthouse suites. Last season was his most successful in the National Football League, catching 68 passes for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns.

Britt has played in 113 career games (76 starts), totaling 327 receptions for 5,114 yards and 32 touchdowns. He racked up more than 1,400 yards and recorded 12 receiving touchdowns in his first two years combined.

A second-team AP All-Pro last season, Cannon played in seven of the first eight games but missed the last five with an ankle injury.

Britt will reunite with former college teammate Devin McCourty - he was with Devin's twin brother Jason in Cleveland - as well other former Rutgers stars Duron Harmon and Jonathan Freeny.

The Patriots also re-signed defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois.

The signing comes after one of Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady's least accurate performances of the season, in which he posted a 55.81 completion percentage. The 6-2, 255-pounder spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons with New England before being released following training camp this summer on the final cut-down on September 2.
