Times Square will get permanent protective barriers

New York City will add 1,500 barriers in high-profile areas to prevent vehicle terror attacks officials announced

The barriers are meant to protect pedestrians walking in plazas and on sidewalks from any vehicles.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced plans to install almost 1,500 new permanent perimeter barriers, known as bollards, into the city's streetscape.

Hundreds of new protective barriers will be permanently installed in Times Square and other locations around NY in an effort to block vehicles from hitting pedestrians after deadly attacks a year ago on crowds.
