YouTube responds to Logan Paul controversy

Logan Paul Suicide Forest Vlog

The clip depicted the 22-year-old Paul and a few friends exploring Aokigahara, a dense forest near Japan's Mount Fuji that has become notorious for the high number of deaths by suicide that occur there each year.

He seems aware that the site is sometimes chosen for suicides, but is surprised to come across what appears to be a hanging victim. He briefly mentioned the encounter with a body at the start of the video, saying, "That was weird". Paul released an apologetic statement last night, but that only made things worse since it came across as tone-deaf and insufficient for a lot of people.

Logan and his brother Jake Paul grew to fame and notoriety for their boisterous personalities on the micro-video site Vine before moving to YouTube, where they enjoy a subscriber base in the tens of millions - many of whom are pre-teen or teenaged girls. "For my fans who are defending my actions, please don't - they do not deserve to be defended".

"I'm often reminded of how big a reach I have & with great power comes great responsibility", Paul wrote in the apology, while adding that he did not post the view for views, because "I get views".

Grayson Dolan, a teenaged social media star with 5.1 million Twitter followers, said Paul should simply have known better. In the posted video, the face of the person who appeared to have taken his or her own life is blurred.

In his latest statement, USA star Paul said: "I've made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement and I don't expect to be forgiven, I'm simply here to apologise". The goal with my content is always to entertain, to push the boundaries and to be all-inclusive. In an intro to the video - titled "We saw a dead body in the Japanese Suicide Forest" - Paul says: "this is not clickbait". "I don't expect to be forgiven".

"I want to apologise to anyone who has seen the video".

"I'm disappointed in myself, and I promise to be better". Three strikes will result in a channel being removed entirely from the platform.

"What, you never stand next to a dead guy", Paul relplies.

Paul posted a more sanguine video on YouTube on Monday, showing him romping through a Tokyo park, talking about his apparel brand, visiting gadget stores and running around city streets wearing a Pokemon outfit.

Paul was mostly known for his slapstick style of comedy, sharing footage of himself doing stunts, telling jokes, and playing pranks.

"If a video is graphic, it can only remain on the site when supported by appropriate educational or documentary information and in some cases it will be age-gated".

"We partner with safety groups such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to provide educational resources that are incorporated in our YouTube Safety Centre". You're not raising awareness. You don't deserve the success (views) you have. You disgust me. I can't believe that so many young people look up to you. I pray to God you never have to experience anything like that man did.
