Wolff on Bannon statement 'This is not true'

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon made a lengthy statement apologizing for the explosive comments he made that were quoted in Michael Wolff's new book, "Fire & Fury: Inside the Trump White House".

In the letter, Bannon apologizes to the president's son Donald Trump Jr., says that Trump is the only candidate that could have defeated the "Clinton apparatus" and claims that comments made in the book were not aimed at Trump Jr., but rather at Paul Manafort.

"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency".

"(A) ccording to people familiar with their thinking, the revelations about Bannon validated Kushner and Ivanka, who had, for months, seen Trump's former adviser as enemy No.1 - someone who constantly undermined them and leaked negative information about them to the press.

Trump said he had gone from being a successful businessman to TV star to president of the US.

"I literally kind of knocked on the door and said, 'Can I come in?' and they said, 'OK.' And I came in, I sat on the couch and that's the point of view I've written this", he recounted.

"I'm always amazed at the lengths people will go to, to lie for money and for power. It's in his imagination", Trump said about the author of the book Wolff.

Bannon walked back many of his remarks on Sunday about the Russian Federation investigation, Trump, and his family.

White House officials and Trump's high-profile supporters have launched an effort to raise doubts about Wolff's credibility.

Wolff says his book has included more than 200 interviews, many of which were taped.

Tapper abruptly ended the interview, saying: "I think I've wasted enough of my viewers' time". "No one questions the stability of the president", Haley said.

Donald Trump has defended a series of tweets in which he described himself as a "very stable genius" - by saying he was a "very excellent student".

"He said he interviewed me for three hours in the White House".

Theresa Maywas asked about accusations in a new book that he is mentally unfit for office. "It's in his imagination", Trump said Saturday.
