Grandmother foiled possible school attack day before Florida massacre

Grandmother foils school shooting plot in Washington

According to a document of probable cause submitted by the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, the grandmother rang up the police, alarmed after reading the pages of the journal.

While a Florida community mourns those killed and injured in the latest school shooting, neighbors call an Everett grandmother a hero after she called police Tuesday to report her grandson may have been plotting a shooting at his school.

When officers arrived at her home in the 10600 block of Holly Drive, she showed them excerpts from her grandson's journal and also told officers that the teen had a rifle stored in his guitar case, police said in a news statement released Wednesday morning.

His grandmother showed officers parts of the journal where O'Connor allegedly drew up plans to shoot students and use homemade explosives at the school.

RT.com has contacted Everett Police Department and the ACES High School for comment.

The man is facing an additional assault charge for allegedly kicking one of the arresting officers after slipping out of his handcuffs at the police station. His entries included details about making pressure-cooker bombs, activating inert grenades and deploying explosives for maximum casualties, court papers said.

"We are really grateful to the grandmother", Mukilteo School District spokesman Andy Muntz told the International Business Times. I can't wait. My aim has gotten much more accurate ...

"I need to make this count", the journal reportedly said, CBS News reported. "I'm learning from past shooters/bombers mistakes, so I don't make the same ones". I need to get the biggest fatality number I possibly can.

At the police station, O'Connor "managed to pull his hand from one of his cuffs" and "spun away" from an officer, running through a parking lot, according to the court records.

Probable cause documents also said the journal "contains a "coin flip" that he did to decide whether his target would be Kamiak High School or ACES High School, then wrote about how ACES won the flip and would be his target".

The report adds that the responding officers then noticed two military-grade grenades in O'Connor's room, after which they left the premises to get a warrant. Those entries would describe an armed robbery of a convenience store on W. Casino Road that was carried out the previous night.

His bail has been set at $5 million, according to booking records. "That couldn't have been easy for her to do". She said the "musings and ventings" in O'Connor's journal weren't enough evidence to support a charge of attempted murder. "It could well have saved many, many lives including her grandson's life", Muntz said, USA Today reported.
