Sushma Swaraj calls on Iran President

India and Iran signed nine agreements on Saturday, including in areas such as double taxation avoidance, extradition, agriculture and traditional medicine. The Indian move will hugely help the Iranian economy as it will draw in more Indian investment into Iran. But more important than geographical boundaries was the influence of the Cold War.

Iran said it expected Indian orders to grow.

Prime Minister Modi said India & Iran believe in peace & cooperation.

The India-Iran joint statement released after the Modi-Rouhani talks said "India conveyed its readiness to support the development of Chabahar- Zahedan Rail line", that will aid the transport of goods right up to the Afghan border.

He addressed a meeting of Iranians settled in Hyderabad on Friday evening before leaving for New Delhi.

He also expressed India-Iran's wish to see Afghanistan "safe and prosper". During his visit, both Iran and India will review the progress achieved in bilateral relations and also exchange views on regional and worldwide issues of mutual interest.

At a news conference with Rouhani, the prime minister added that the Iranian president's visit would strengthen the nations' historical and friendly ties.

As a result of the better times, non-oil trade between Iran and India reached $4.74 billion in the 12 months that followed March 2016, up by 4.17% compared to the same period in the previous year.
