Tesla: Model X crash was worsened by missing freeway barrier shield

Data from financial analytics firm S3 Partners indicates that Tesla stock is the second-biggest short among USA equities, with only Apple being larger. It is not clear whether the driver-assistance system equipped in Tesla's vehicles may have played in the crash. Regulators are also investigating the fire that happened after the Tesla crash and looking into the steps needed to safely move the vehicle from the scene of the accident. Tesla has said all cars now being made at its factory in Fremont, California, including the Model 3, have the hardware needed to one day be fully self-driving.

Tesla also wrote that it is working with authorities to recover the vehicle's logs in hopes of having "a better understanding of what happened".

By Wednesday's stock market close, Tesla's share price had plummeted to $258, its lowest level since last March.

The California Highway Patrol said the electric Model X crashed into a freeway divider on Friday and then was hit by a Mazda before colliding with an Audi.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced on Tuesday that it is investigating a fatal auto accident involving a Tesla vehicle, which occurred in Mountain View, California last Friday.

Our data shows that Tesla owners have driven this same stretch of highway with Autopilot engaged roughly 85,000 times since Autopilot was first rolled out in 2015 and roughly 20,000 times since just the beginning of the year, and there has never been an accident that we know of. While the NTSB conducts its investigation, Tesla has tried to get ahead of the story by releasing a statement giving a few possible reasons why the crash may have been so severe. Ctc Llc sold 38,414 shares as Tesla Inc (TSLA)'s stock declined 14.15%. The pedestrian died from the collision. The stock has "Outperform" rating by RBC Capital Markets on Friday, October 7.

Tesla may choose to issue convertible notes or tap the secured loan market to meet its capital needs, Anand said. "It's going to be harder for them to raise money". Bloomberg's Model 3 production tracker estimates the company may be making about 975 of the cars a week, a far cry from the end-of-quarter target of 2,500 per week.

Moody's downgraded Tesla's rating Tuesday and assigned it a negative outlook due to the significant shortfall in the production rate of the Model 3.

In August, they lined up for the chance to finance Tesla Inc.'s ambitious rollout of its Model 3 sedan. The company missed its sales target for Model 3 during the last quarter, but now has a chance to prove both Wall Street and critics wrong.

Tocqueville Asset Management L.P. decreased its holdings in shares of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) by 9.7% in the 4th quarter, according to the company in its most recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Amid all the negative sentiment surrounding Tesla stock right now, the Morgan Stanley analyst sees "one of the buying opportunities that many investors have been waiting for". While investors were doubtful that his auto startup could even make an electric vehicle, Musk succeeded in building a company that now competes against some of the industry's most powerful, long-standing leaders, with its Model S sedan receiving the highest quality ratings.
