Cynthia Nixon ‘absolutely for’ legalizing marijuana in New York

Former "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon gave her first TV interview since announcing her run for Governor of NY on "The Wendy Williams Show", which aired today.

Cynthia Nixon appeared on "The Wendy Williams Show" on Wednesday.

Nixon made her first unexpected TV appearance on April 4 at The Wendy Williams Show. President Trump's astonishing election win also partly inspired her run. "There's such an appetite for real progressive change in NY state".

She added: 'There is so much we can do to really be an alternative to Donald Trump.to protect our people and to say, 'there is not the way our country should be going.

In a video message on March 19, Nixon announced her primary challenge to Cuomo, having been an outspoken critic of his administration. "It is tough", Nixon said. "I have to say, when Andrew Cuomo ran eight years ago, he was a celebrity because he was the son of Mario Cuomo".

However, in the clip provided to Us Weekly, Nixon added: "We love the clothes!" "We have such an appetite now, that's why I'm running".

The actress turned activist, who is challenging incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination for New York's governor, has come out in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.

When Williams asked if the death of Stephon Clark, an unarmed 22-year-old black man shot and killed by police in his grandmother's backyard in Sacramento, California, was a "black thing", Nixon responded, "Yes, I think it is".

"I'm absolutely for the legalization of marijuana", Nixon said. "If we're going to say black lives matter, then we have to mean it".

On the subject of so-called "celebrity candidates" - the famous faces who seemingly enter politics simply to grab hold of fading headlines (see: Stacey Dash) - Nixon had another comeback. "And we have to implement change", she exlained, continuing: "Black women for a long time, and never more visibly than nowadays, they are the cornerstone-they are the backbone-of the Democratic party".

As for her stance on marijuana, the actress is in totally in favor of legalizing it in NY.
