Yogi government installs saffron statue of Dr BR Ambedkar

Vandalised Ambedkar statue rebuilt turns saffron in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun

The statue of the father of constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar, was seen in saffron color and was covered with marigold garlands at a village in Uttar Pradesh called Badaun. One of the locals said that the villagers and administration agreed for the statue to be repainted and that there is no problem in painting this statue blue. Ambedkar's statues anywhere in India depict him dressed in a blue-colour coat.

Veeru Sonkar, state general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Khatik Samaj, said, "The saffron statue of the Dalit icon comes soon after the state government emphasised on "Ramji" as his middle name". Later the Hajj House was repainted after much protest.

The statue was rebuilt in the presence of district police officers, but controversy erupted when people noticed that the colour of the statue was saffron.

Similar incidents were reported where a statue of Dr Ambedkar was also vandalised by some unidentified people in Firozabad, Etah, Siddhartnagar and Allahabad districts recently.

Asked about the saffron hue, the SDM said "the committee members had brought blue paint along, but the statue was installed before giving it a blue coat".

A new statue was requisitioned from Agra and re-installed at the site the next day.

But now Gautam has no answer as to why he repainted the statue to blue overnight.

The following development comes after the Government had chose to introduce "Ramji" as his middle name in all the official documents.

However, others like Kalicharan, the head of Ambedkar Suraksha Samiti, were not ready to accept the saffron colour. This includes the CM's office and official residences of couple of state ministers.
