Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reveals his special India connect

Arsenal slash managerial shortlist ahead of crucial sit-down with Stan Kroenke

"Because the Champions League doesn't sell well anymore", Wenger said.

Outgoing Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been on the receiving end of a deluge of compliments of late but the French tactician has returned the favour by, somewhat surprisingly, speaking fondly of a country he has never visited-India.

Wenger has largely brought success to Arsenal, winning three Premier Leagues as well as seven FA Cups.

But it's the way Wenger has got his Arsenal players thinking that the 68-year-old wants to be mainly remembered for.

Arsenal mustered their first away win of 2018 in a 1-0 win over Huddersfield at the John Smiths Stadium, but more importantly, the victory rounded off Wenger's superb 22-year tenure.

"But maybe let's see I don't know if it's going to be one of my ex-team-mates is going to replace him but if not now but it would be nice to see somebody around at some point and I hope it happens soon".

Pep Guardiola will not stand in the way of Mikel Arteta becoming the next Arsenal manager but says he will be "the happiest guy in the world" if he stays with Manchester City.

The Frenchman will not be the only individual connected to a top-flight club wiping away a tear or two come 5pm.

"The Premier League has become a worldwide championship".

Yet the fine form of Aubameyang since his January arrival encouraged Wenger to claim he has left Arsenal in good hands.

So what will that mean for the Premier League?

But Wenger indicated worldwide management could yet be on the agenda, although he would like to see Southgate remain with England beyond his current contract, which expires in 2020. "As a professional, a person and the way he approached and also for the club and especially for football and I think everybody in football should thank him for everything he did".

"Will I manage England one day?"

"It will be hard to adjust of course but I will have to deal with that".

Wenger waved goodbye to Arsenal fans ahead of the game at Huddersfield.
