Nawaz Sharif's Defiance Shows He Is Not Ready To Spare Pakistani Army

Sharif's statement about Mumbai attack was 'misreported': Pak PM

He stresses "After all, it was Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who, resisting all pressures, took the most important and most hard decision on national security in Pakistan's history by making the country a nuclear power in May 1998".

Sharif, for the first time, publicly acknowledged in an interview that militant organisations are active in Pakistan and questioned the policy to allow the "non-state actors to cross the border and kill people in Mumbai". "He told me that he has not made such comments and his words have been misrepresented and taken out of context", Abbasi was quoted by Pakistan's Daily Times, as saying. The participants termed the remarks as contrary to the facts and said that Indian government didn't present evidence for investigation.

Following the statement, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, led by Nawaz's brother Shehbaz Sharif, had stated that the Indian media had misreported the statement.

He added that local media had picked up India's narrative by widely reporting the remarks made by the ousted premier which had stirred a controversy.

Weighing the ongoing wave of discussions on the Mumbai attacks, former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said India used the Mumbai attacks for its own "despicable" plans. "Nawaz Sharif is still our Quaid (supreme leader)", he said.

PM Abbasi went on to say that Pakistan has always maintained that it would not allow anyone to use its soil against any country. "We must look into it", he added.
