IISc in top 100 world university list again

UCLA ranked ninth best university worldwide in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings an increase from 13th last year

The US continues to dominate the table in 2018, with Harvard University taking the top spot for the eighth consecutive year, and 43 other US institutions making the top 100.

The Top 10 of the annual list, compiled from a global survey of more than 10,000 senior academics between January and March 2018, remains nearly unchanged from past year, said THE in a release.

But Phil Baty, THE's editorial director of global rankings, warned that while the nation has some of the most prestigious universities in the world, these institutions have either "fallen down the global pecking order, or stayed static".

Of Germanys six universities in the Top 100, three declined in position, including leading institution LMU Munich which, said THE, dropped from 42 to 49. "This should produce a virtuous circle, where excellence drives improved reputation and improved reputation supports excellence - helping to attract more global talent, more prestigious worldwide partnerships and more inward investment".
