Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen searching for new legal team in Federal Bureau of Investigation probe

Attorneys for Trump lawyer Cohen to end representation- source

President Donald Trump's longtime friend, legal fixer, and attorney Michael Cohen will separate from his legal team in the matter now before the Southern District of NY.

Mr. Cohen doesn't yet have a replacement law firm but is searching for a federal criminal lawyer in NY, people familiar with the matter said. There are also reports that some members of Ryan's firm, McDermott Will & Emery, are uncomfortable representing Cohen in his NY case, which suggests that there may be something really unpleasant about it. Cohen is getting ready to hire new lawyers in the federal investigation of his business deals.

The departure comes as attorneys in the case scramble to review more than 3.7 million documents seized in the April 9 raids of Mr. Cohen's home and office.

Cohen, he said, is "sending messages to the prosecutors that I am available to flip - and sending a message to the president that I am available to be pardoned".

The center of Cohen's troubles is a $130,000 hush-money payment that he facilitated to porn star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, just weeks before the 2016 presidential election to keep her quiet about her allegation of a 2006 affair with Trump. the Federal Bureau of Investigation sought documents related to that payment and other similar agreements with women during the April raids.

Cohen has maintained that he's innocent of wrongdoing, and Trump has called the raid on his lawyer an assault on attorney client privilege.

The firm's spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

"There's a lot of speculation about whether Mr. Cohen can pay Mr. Ryan's fees", the Fox Business correspondent continued. The Times reported that once the review is complete, Cohen will seek new counsel.

The President said, "They haven't been convicted of anything. No campaign finance violations".

He has been making damning headlines ever since it was revealed in January that he brokered a hush agreement between Trump and porn star Stormy Daniels. U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood previously gave Cohen's team a Friday deadline for their first review.

The probe into Cohen is being handled by federal prosecutors in Manhattan, who were made aware of alleged wrongdoing by Mueller's team of investigators. "If Trump broke the law with respect to collusion with Russian Federation during the campaign or in other respects, it is very possible that Cohen knows about it".

He also suggested that even if Cohen is cooperating, Team Trump doesn't care.

But there's little question that Trump is very anxious about what Cohen might tell prosecutors.
